---|---|---|
Maximum Vehicle CoverageOBDLink LX Bluetooth works with all 1996 and newer cars and light trucks sold in the United States (except hybrid or electric vehicles). The OBDLink proprietary connection algorithm enables LX to connect to more makes and models than any other scan tool. It also supports EOBD, JOBD, and all other international variants of OBD-II. |
Exclusive Android App and Diagnostics SoftwareYou can clear the 'Check Engine Light', read all diagnostic trouble codes and research them online, check emissions test readiness, and calculate instantaneous and average MPG (and much more) with the free OBDLink app. It also includes a HUD option. Additionaly, you'll get the free OBDwiz diagnostics software for Windows PCs and laptops. |
Exceptional Security ProtectionOBDLink LX Bluetooth utilizes secure 128-bit data encryption, a sensible precaution to keep hackers from accessing your car's network. Unlike generic adapters, LX Bluetooth does not use an easy-to-guess PIN ('1234' or '0000'), or display the PIN publicly, protecting the communication link. |

---|---|---|
BatterySaver TechnologyWhen you turn off your engine, LX Bluetooth goes to sleep and won't drain your car's battery. Its sophisticated triggers will wake up LX when you connect via Bluetooth, unlock doors, or crank the engine. |
Connects To More 3rd Party AppsAllows you to use popular third party apps like Torque, DashCommand, and Dash to unlock enhanced performance, cost savings, and social driving. |
Unmatched PerformanceUp to 4x faster than the closest competitor. This increased throughput results in smooth, realistic virtual gauges and accurate, detailed graphs. |
Why Should I Buy OBDLink Instead of a Generic Scan Tool?
1) Only LX Bluetooth has overvoltage protection, which keeps it from catching on fire during a load dump condition.
2) LX Bluetooth automatically goes to sleep when not in use, saving you the trouble of dealing with a dead car battery.
3) Having been engineered to provide exceptional data throughput, LX accelerates apps by up to 250% and PC software by up to 300%. Experience faster screen updates and more graph points.
4) Unlike the generic ELM327 adapters, LX Bluetooth uses strong encryption and neither broadcasts its presence, nor uses an easy-to-guess PIN to protect the communication link.
OBDLink LX comes with a 3-year warranty and lifetime software and firmware upgrades.

I have two vehicles that seem to communicate with each other. Both engine light indicators came on within 3 days of each other. Conspiring, I know, and in turn I looked for a solution rather than being out one vehicle per week for three weeks and be out at least $180 in just diagnostic charges. With that said, I turned to the Interwebs for a solution. In coming across the ScanTool website, I was intrigued equally with suspicion.
I must have called 4 auto stores, 3 friends that are car enthusiasts, and a bevy of other people in forums with no one ever hearing of this product. As such, I decided to conduct the test myself. I purchased the ScanTool through Amazon and it arrived the next day. Then the real test began.
I removed it from the package, which was nice to see that it was modest, not overly flashy, and the tri-fold instructions. I was pleased to see that I was able to load the software to my laptop, Android tablet and phone all at no extra charge. Rounds 1 and 2 go to ScanTool. So far so good.
Test one, stopwatch started. I followed the instructions to the letter and in exactly 2 minutes 10 seconds I had the OBDLink tool connected to my tablet via bluetooth and the codes reported. The software interface was very easy to read, plain to understand the code report, and to my delight, ScanTool's claims were true to their word. Round 3, ScanTool.
The last test was to conduct my repairs to the vehicle and see if the codes reported were accurate and I had the ability to remove the code once the repairs were completed. It took me a day to complete the repairs, double check my work, complete driving tests and on reconnecting the device, I was pleased to see that not only were the reported codes correct, I was able to removes the codes and the engine light has remained off since, all other tests are green which tells me the original diagnostics were indeed correct.
Just to check again, I conducted the exact same process with my second vehicle, which had a different problem but was still repairable by my expertise. The process ended with the same success. I did a cost analysis of what I would have paid for like repairs including the diagnostic charge for each vehicle. Since the repairs were not incredibly difficult and were easy to execute with little complexity.
Vehicle One - Total cost of repair $37 - 2 hours of labor
Vehicle Two - Total cost of repair $54 - 3 hours of labor
Total estimated cost of both vehicles if they had been taken to dealerships to repair - $1300 and the loss of 3 days per vehicle.
It's obvious to see that with a little know-how and effort on your part, the ScanTool 427201 OBDLink LX Bluetooth OBD-II Scan Tool Interface can be one of the most invaluable tools you keep in your toolbox. I am very surprise this is not more popular.
K
There does not seem to be any additional drain while parked and the adapter does appear to go entirely to sleep after a bit since there are no lights on the scanner before I wake the car which is good.
Top reviews from other countries
But in the meantime, had a malfunction light come on in my car so I paired the scan tool to the APP on my phone....did the diagnostics and voila, light is now off.
The whole thing is well displayed on the app and easy to navigate ....lots you can do with it, quite amazing actually !
